If you would like to get a Beagle dog but still need to do more investigating before you make your final decision, the following information should help you determine whether or not a Beagle is suited to your lifestyle Dog boarding Katy TX.
Dog Group – Beagle dogs are part of the “Hound” group. Hounds include a variety of breeds that were bred for the soul purpose to track and hunt game. Thus, all dogs in this group have fantastic smellers.
Life Span – Beagles live for 12 – 15 years.
Size – Beagles are a medium sized breed and grow to about 13 – 15 inches at the shoulder. They weigh approximately 20 – 25 pounds when fully grown.
Health – Beagles are relatively healthy. That being said, they do have a few health problems that should be watched for including eye problems, bone development, dwarfism and back problems.
Exercise – Beagle dogs need a great deal of exercise to burn their high energy. A Beagle should be taken out for walks at least twice a day for 20 – 30 minutes. They should also be provided with adequate play time and the freedom to run around in the backyard.
First Time Dog Owner – If you are a first time dog owner, a Beagle is a fine breed. Although they do have high energy and can be stubborn to train, if you are prepared to provide them with plenty of attention, exercise and the proper training, they will be the perfect companion.
It’s tough being a new beagle owner that’s why I have personally written the Beagle Training Guide to help them properly train their puppies.
Grooming – Beagles require occasional coat brushing to remove dirt and dead hair. Use a rubber brush. Beagles are average coat shedders so expect to find hairs around your home.
Other Pets – Beagles get along famously with other dogs, especially their own breed. They can be friendly with other family pets, but must be introduced and socialized with them as puppies. If not, you can not trust a Beagle around cats and rodents.
Social Skills – Beagle dogs are extremely friendly and love everyone, including children. This breed is an excellent family dog, and enjoys tons of company. Don’t expect him to guard you against intruders.
Home life – Beagles are content in both the country and the city. You can have a Beagle in an apartment, but you must be prepared to provide him with the outdoor exercise he requires.
Temperament – Beagle dogs are gentle, lovable, intelligent and energetic. They are an extremely happy dog breed and are not aggressive in any way.
Training – Beagles are incredibly independent and have a mind of their own. This can make them stubborn to train, as it will be difficult to convince the Beagle to try and follow a command if he doesn’t see a point to it. This breed does well with proper obedience training.
